Request SLES funding during your child’s NDIS plan review or by contacting your NDIS planner to discuss employment goals and needs.
SLES is tailored for school leavers and focuses on the transition period, helping participants prepare for employment before they enter the workforce. Other NDIS employment supports are usually for individuals already seeking or in employment.
The SLES program operates on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. This schedule allows participants to engage in skill-based units and industry tasters, providing a comprehensive pathway to employment.
Our SLES program is group-based, allowing participants to learn and develop skills alongside their peers. This approach encourages collaboration, teamwork, and social interaction, whilst also providing opportunities for each participant to explore their own goals and work towards achieving them.
It varies by your capacity and goals. You might work a few hours per week or up to full-time hours, depending on your needs and funding. The minimum hours for the week are 8 hours.
Hours are varied, 8am-4pm for the warehouse and 7:30am-3pm for garden.
It allows employers to pay a wage based on an employee’s productivity, assessed independently, ensuring fairness while encouraging employment.
Skills that can be beneficial before starting SLES include basic literacy and numeracy skills, the ability to follow instructions, and basic time management and organisational skills. Participants should also have a willingness to engage with others in a group setting and a desire to build both confidence and independence in a work environment. These skills will help them get the most out of the program, but SLES is designed to help develop and strengthen these abilities as participants progress.
Eligibility includes being a NDIS participant, aged between 18 and 24, and a school leaver transitioning from Year 10 or above.
